Mobile Marketing Goes Live

So how do you feel about mobile marketing. I’m starting to receive messages on my phone from companies and I’m not sure If I’m too happy about it. The article talks about how many large companies are using mobile phones to market to people and that three quarters (73%) of brands answered that up to 10% of recipients subsequently undertook a financial action as a result of the marketing campaign. Personally I don’t like receiving any marketing or advertising unless I opt in for it. Although if a company uses premium sms services such as stock quotes, weather forecasts, etc. and then eases in a bit of advertising I don’t really mind it. Basically if a company provides me a useful service that I end up frequently using and then has adds next to or embedded in the content, I don’t really mind it… Most of us understand that the big brands need to make money but If they send me something without having offered me anything useful I usually just ignore it.

The following article talks about how some big brands aren’t comfortable with using cell phones to market to people because they see it as too intrusive and that customers perceive the messages as spam. But as I said before, if a company offers something for free and then advertises along side it or embeds an add like YouTube does, you can’t help but think to yourself, “I’m using this service for FREE so I don’t mind the company taking 15 seconds out of my time to market their product to me. After all I might like what they have to offer.”

What do you think?
